In recent years the world of golf course design has seen a move towards the classic design philosophies, which have produced some of the world's great courses. Some developers have chosen to ignore this move by implanting features that do little for the local environment and copy styles from across the world. However, at Dunmurry Springs Golf Club in Kildare there has been a committed approach to create a wonderfully classic golf course that is the epitome of a golf development showing an appreciation for the spirit of the game.

Born out of a passion to utilise a very special site beside The Curragh, Mel Flanagan and his team have crafted a classic piece of golf architecture in the mould of the great romantic courses like Gleneagles or Royal Birkdale but with a distinctly Irish blend. Golfers of all abilities will admire the skill with which he achieved his aim, as this is clearly a course that combines traditional design philosophies utilising the natural springs, movement and grasses of the land with some of the most spectacular views in Ireland.

Dunmurry Springs is establishing itself as ‘Real Golfers Golf Course’. The prestigious US Golfer Magazine voted this course one of the 10 Best New courses in Europe in 2005 and according to the website www.ratemygolfcourse.ie it is proving very popular with golfers.

The layout of the course is such that it brings the golfer through a series of tests. Skill, tactics, and bravery reward those that give the course the respect it deserves. Every hole has its own dangers but with skill they are playable by all abilities. Multiple tee positions facilitate all categories of golfer, with the championship tee positions demanding exceptional strategic shot making. It is difficult to pick out a signature hole as so many have merit, but watch out for the lake fronted 3rd, the dog-leg par-5 6th the links-like 8th and monster 10th. Also enjoy the watery splendours of the knee-trembling 11th and 15th.

The views of the seven surrounding counties are most impressive out by Dunmurry Springs’ own Amen Corner of the 6th 7th & 8th. Designer Mel Flanagan has provided a dramatic but playable challenge while using the courses’ superb surroundings to tease all levels of golfer.

There is no doubt this course will be capable of hosting the very best golf events.
